New York Yankees starter Chase Whitley will be going for his second career win on Thursday night when he goes up against fellow rookie Roenis Elias and the Seattle Mariners.

24-year-old Chase Whitley won for the first time at the Major League level last week against the Kansas City Royals by pitching seven innings and giving up just two earned runs. He gave up just five hits in that game and allowed no walks while striking out three. Through 26 innings this season, Whitley has yet to allow an opposing hitter to hit a home run off of him.

The Mariners will be going up against Whitley for the first time on Thursday night and can expect to see him throw his highly-rated slider a third of the time during the game.

Roenis Elias won his second start in a row last Saturday against the Tampa Bay Rays, but he did allow four runs in 7.2 innings in that game. Elias struck out five and walked two in that outing while giving up five hits. He now owns a 5-4 record and has only given up 69 hits in 81.2 innings.

This will be the second time that the Yankees will be facing Elias. The right-hander did pretty well against him in earlier this season, but outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury was able to hit a home run off of him in that game.
