New York Yankees starter David Phelps will be trying to end his four-game losing streak on Friday when he goes up against Sonny Gray and the Oakland Athletics.

Third-year starter David Phelps lost his fourth straight start on Saturday when he allowed a season-high seven earned runs against the Kansas City Royals on the road. In 5.2 innings, he gave up 10 hits to the Royals and walked two while striking out four. Through 51.2 innings this season, Phelps is 1-4 with a 4.88 ERA and he has given up 9.8 hits per nine innings.

Athletics infielder Alberto Callaspo has just one hit in five at-bats against Phelps in his career, while star outfielder Yoenis Cespedes is 0-for-3 against him with one strikeout.

24-year-old Sonny Gray had his worst outing of the season last weekend against the Baltimore Orioles on the road when he allowed five earned runs in 5.1 innings of work. He did strike out seven hitters in that game, but he also walked four, which matched his worst total of the year. Gray now has a 6-2 record and an impressive 2.83 ERA through 13 starts.

In two plate appearances against Gray, veteran second baseman Brian Roberts is 1-for-1 with a walk and an RBI. All of the other Yankees will be going up against the young right-hander for the first time on Friday night.
