Wednesday night, the New York Yankees and Masahiro Tanaka will take on the New York Mets and Rafael Montero.  Tanaka will be making his 8th start as Montero makes his major league debut.

Masahiro Tanaka comes into this one with an impressive 5 – 0 record and an ERA of 2.57.  In his last outing, Tanaka gave up 2 runs on 7 hits in 6.1 innings with a walk and 7 strikeouts.  Tanaka has been a strikeout machine with 58 so far.  In his first season here in the US, Tanaka has been just as tough here as he was in Japan and that could mean great things for him but bad things for opposing batters. 

Since this is his first season in the Majors, he has yet to face the Mets.  But they shouldn’t pose any threat to him if he continues to pitch as well as he has.

Rafael Montero makes his major league debut after putting in some solid work in the Mets’ farm system.  In this season, Montero was 4 – 1 with an ERA of 3.67 in 8 starts.  His strikeout to walk ratio is great with 41 strikeouts to just 18 walks.   In his last start in Las Vegas, he threw 5.1 innings of shutout ball.        

For Montero, the scouting report and the pitching staff will be the best help that he can get in order to accurately prepare for the Yankees.
