Right-hander Masahiro Tanaka will try to snap his first two-game losing streak when the New York Yankees go up against Phil Hughes and the Minnesota Twins on Thursday night.

Masahiro Tanaka pitched a complete game against the Boston Red Sox on Monday, but he ended up losing the game after getting just one run of support from his offense. He allowed two runs on seven hits in that outing while walking one and striking out eight. On the season, Tanaka has struck out 127 batters in 115.2 innings and he has a sparkling 2.10 ERA.

The Twins are one of the teams that Tanaka has already faced this season. Eduardo Escobar is the only Twin who got multiple hits against him, going 2-for-4 against him with two singles.

Phil Hughes gave up five runs in 7.2 innings of work against the Texas Rangers on Monday and ended up losing for the fourth time this season. He allowed 11 hits in that outing and walked one batter while striking out six. Hughes has been good for the Twins this year, going 8-4 through 16 starts with a solid 3.58 ERA.

Yankees outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury has seven hits in 19 at-bats against Hughes with two doubles and four RBI. Veteran second baseman Brian Roberts has just two hits against him in 20 at-bats with a double and five strikeouts.
