Masahiro Tanaka will be on the mound for the New York Yankees on Friday night when they take on Yovani Gallardo and the Milwaukee Brewers.

Masahiro Tanaka moved his record to a perfect 4-0 when he was able to pitch seven strong innings against the Tampa Bay Rays last Saturday. He gave up three runs on eight hits that game, but he didn't walk a batter and struck out five. He has given up seven home runs through 42.2 innings this season, but he still has a very solid 2.53 ERA.

This will be the first time that Tanaka will face the Brewers. So far this season, he has used his assorted fastballs about 70% of the time and he throws his highly-rated 83 mph slider about 20% of the time.

Yovani Gallardo suffered his first loss of the season last Saturday when he was beaten by the Cincinnati Reds on the road. He gave up four runs off of nine hits in six innings in that game, and he struck out a season-low one and walked one. He still has a very good 2.47 ERA on the year, but his 3.64 FIP suggests that he's been a bit lucky.

Alfonso Soriano has hit a home run off of Gallardo, but that is one of just four hits in 25 at-bats against him. Brian McCann is just 2-for-15 against the veteran right-hander in his career with three strikeouts.
