David Phelps will be making his first start of the season when the New York Yankees face Jered Weaver and the Los Angeles Angels.

Due to Michael Pineda being suspended and having number of injuries to other starters, the Yankees have been forced to give reliever David Phelps his first start on Monday. He did make 12 starts last season for New York, so it won't be a new experience for him. However, he has had issues with command out of the pen this season, walking 5.4 batters per nine innings.

Phelps has done pretty well against the Angels' best hitters, including Albert Pujols, who is just 1-for-7 in their matchups. Erick Aybar has had the most success against Phelps of all of the Angels' hitters, going 3-for-6 with a home run and two RBI.

Jered Weaver was only able to go 5.1 innings in his start last Tuesday against the Cleveland Indians, but he did enough to pick up his second win of the season. He gave up two runs on eight hits in that outing and struck out six while walking just one. His ERA is now at an even 4.00.

Weaver has faced outfielder Ichiro Suzuki 76 times in his career and has held him to a .254 batting average with nine strikeouts and five walks. Mark Teixeira has two home runs off of the big right-hander, but he has just a .188 batting average in 32 at-bats.
