Rookie Chase Whitley will be on the mound for the New York Yankees on Friday and will be facing off against Jeremy Guthrie and the Kansas City Royals.

24-year-old Chase Whitley pitched well in his five innings against the Minnesota Twins on Sunday, but he once again could only get a no decision out of it. He went five innings in that outing and allowed just one run on five hits while walking no one and striking out a season-high six batters. He has received a no decision in all four of his starts this year, but he has definitely deserved better because he has a 2.37 ERA and 15 strikeouts through 19 innings.

Whitley will be going up against the Royals for the first time in his career on Friday night.

Veteran right-hander Jeremy Guthrie picked up his fifth loss of the year over the weekend when he was beaten by the Toronto Blue Jays on the road. He did pitch pretty well in that game, though, by going seven innings and giving up just two runs while striking out five and walking two. Guthrie hasn't been on the winning side of things since back on April 9, but he does have a decent 4.00 ERA through 78.2 innings.

Yankees outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury has 20 hits in 36 at-bats against Guthrie with six doubles, a home run and seven RBI.
