Wednesday night, Shane Greene (3 – 1, 3.17 ERA) will toe the rubber for the New York Yankees as they square off against David Price (12 – 9, 3.00 ERA) and the Detroit Tigers.   Greene makes his 9th start and 10th appearance as Price makes his 28th start.

Shane Greene turned in a fair performance his last time out but he didn’t factor into the decision.  Through 5 innings of work, Greene allowed 3 runs and 9 hits (including a homer) as he walked 2 and struck out 7.   Since coming up from the minors, Greene has pitched fairly well in his spot on an injury-depleted Yankees starting rotation.  He wasn’t even that bad in his one loss.  Prior to coming up from Triple-A, Greene was 5 – 2 with a 4.61 ERA in 13 starts and 2 relief appearances.   

Greene picked up his last victory against the Tigers a few weeks ago.  In that win, Greene hurled 8 shutout innings and allowed 5 hits and 3 walks while striking out 5. 

David Price hurled a gem in his last outing but he ended up taking a hard lock loss.  In 8 innings of work, Price surrendered just a run and a hit with 9 strikeouts without issuing a walk.  But his offense got shutout and Price got the loss.  Price is just 1 - 1 in his 4 starts since coming over from Tampa Bay but he is 6 – 2 in his last 10 starts.  In 2013, Price went 10 – 8 with a 3.33 ERA in 27 starts for the Rays. 

Last season, Price was 2 – 1 with a 3.00 ERA in 3 starts against the Yankees.  This season, Price is 1 – 1 in 4 starts against New York.
