Wednesday night, Brandon McCarthy gets the call for the New York Yankees and they face Josh Tomlin and the Cleveland Indians. McCarthy makes his 19 ^th start (and 1^st as a Yankee) as Tomlin makes his 12^th start and 13^th appearance.

Brandon McCarthy won his last start as an Arizona Diamondback and that gave him a 3 -10 record with a 5.01 ERA. In that start, McCarthy allowed 2 runs on 8 hits in 5.2 innings as he walked 2 and struck out 6. McCarthy hasn't been as bad as his record indicates and he should provide a boost to the New York starting rotation. He has time to post a better record than he did in 2013 when he went 5 - 11 with a 4.53 ERA in 22 starts for the Diamondbacks.

Josh Tomlin took the loss in his last outing and that lowered his record to 5 - 6 with a 4.11 ERA. In the loss, Tomlin surrendered 5 runs and 10 hits (including a homer) in 5.2 innings. He struck out 6 without issuing a single walk. Tomlin only appeared in 1 game last season after missing part of the 2012 season and most of the 2013 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery.

Tomlin does have experience against most of the Yankee lineup though. New York is batting .229 against Tomlin with 19 hits, 2 homers and 8 RBIs in 83 at-bats.
