Tuesday night, the New York Yankees will take the field behind Shane Greene (3 – 1, 2.89 ERA) as they square off against the Baltimore Orioles and Wei-Yin Chen (12 – 4, 3.90 ERA).  Greene makes his 7th start and 8th appearance as Chen makes his 23rd start.  

Shane Greene turned in his best performance of the season and it resulted in a win his last time out.   In the victory, Greene threw 8 innings of scoreless ball and surrendered just 5 hits and 3 walks as he struck out 5 batters.  In his 6 starts this season, Greene has struck out 5 or more batters 4 times and he is trying to keep his walks to a minimum as well.  Prior to getting the call up, Greene was 5 – 2 with a 4.61 ERA in 13 starts and 2 relief appearances.

Greene’s only other shutout performance came in a win against the Orioles.  If he can come close to that effort again, he could get another victory.

Wei-Yin Chen took his first loss in over a month in his last outing.  In defeat, Chen surrendered 4 runs on 8 hits (including a homer) in 5 innings.  He walked 2 and struck out 6.  Prior to the loss, Chen had won 5 straight in fairly dominating fashion.  He has far outpaced his numbers from 2013 when he went 7 - 7 with a 4.07 ERA in 23 starts.

Last season, Chen was 0 - 1 with a 6.06 ERA in 3 starts against the Yankees. Earlier this season, Chen picked up his 1st win of the year over New York after allowing 4 runs and 9 hits (including a homer) in 5 innings.
