Sunday afternoon, Zack Wheeler and the New York Mets will face Jordan Zimmerman and the Washington Nationals.  It will be the 9th starts of the season for both pitchers.

Zack Wheeler was fortunate to escape with a no decision after allowing 5 runs on 7 hits (including a home run) in 4.1 innings of work.  Wheeler walked 6 and only struck out 2 as his record held at 1 - 3 and his ERA rose to 4.53. Walks have been an issue for Wheeler this season as he has already issued 24 of them.  Last season, Wheeler issued 46 walks in 17 starts en route to 7 - 5 record and a 3.42 ERA during his rookie campaign.

In 2013, Wheeler was 1 - 2 with a 3.93 ERA in 3 starts against the Nationals. This year, he opened his season with a loss after giving up 3 runs on 7 hits in 6 innings of work against Washington.

Jordan Zimmerman was lit up in his last outing but he luckily avoided a decision.  In that start, Zimmerman surrendered 5 runs on 10 hits (including a home run) in just 5.2 innings.  Zimmerman struck out 4 without issuing a walk as his record stayed at 2 - 1 with a 3.59 ERA.   Last season, Zimmerman went 19 - 9 with a 3.25 ERA in 32 starts. 

In 2013, Zimmerman went 1 - 3 with a 3.62 ERA in 5 starts against the Mets. Zimmerman might want to pitch around Daniel Murphy as Murphy is batting .316 with 4 doubles, 3 homers and 7 RBIs against the right-hander.
