On Friday night, the New York Mets will face the Washington Nationals in the first meeting of a three game series. The Mets will send Jonathon Niese to the mound for face off with Tanner Roark.

Niese is coming off a no-decision after facing the Phillies on Sunday. He provided another quality start going six innings and giving up three runs on eight hits while striking out six. Niese’s record is 2-2 with a 2.17 ERA and even giving up three earned runs is surprising given how well Niese has been pitching since coming off the DL early in the season. He’ll have a tough draw on Friday as he’ll face a team who has hit him pretty well in the past.

Current Washington hitters hold a .315 team average when facing Niese. Danny Espinosa is 5-for-10 when facing Niese in his career with a double. Adam LaRoche is 4-for-15 with two home runs and six RBI. Niese might find it a bit more difficult to keep his good play going when facing a team as dangerous as the Nationals.

Tanner Roark will take the mound for Washington. He holds a 2-1 record with a 3.65 ERA. Roark has been a bit of a mystery this season as he’ll throw some gems and then turn around and get rocked early. However, in his last outing against the Oakland Athletics, Roark pitched well going 7.2 innings and only giving up one earned run on two hits with five strikeouts. He’ll hope to continue this trend when he faces the Mets on Friday night.
