Thursday night, the New York Mets will give the ball to Zack Wheeler (11 – 10, 3.49 ERA) as they face Doug Fister (15 – 6, 2.55 ERA) and the Washington Nationals.   Wheeler makes his 32nd start as Fister makes his 25th.

Zack Wheeler was dominating on the mound in his last start and he took home the win.  Wheeler threw 6 innings of scoreless ball and allowed just 5 hits and 2 walks while striking out 7 batters.  With the exception of a few outings in recent weeks, Wheeler has given the Mets some good innings of work.  In his last 10 starts, he is 6 – 2.   During his rookie campaign in 2013, Wheeler made 17 starts en route to a 7 - 5 record and a 3.42 ERA.

Last season, Wheeler was 1 -2 with a 3.93 ERA in 3 starts against Washington.  This season, he is 1 -3 in 4 starts against the Nationals.

Doug Fister notched his 3rd straight victory in his trip to the mound. In the win, Fister surrendered 2 runs and 5 hits (including a home run) in 6.2 innings of work.  He walked 2 batters and struck out 1.  Despite a brief losing streak, Fister has turned in some decent starts in recent outings and is 5 -4 in his last 10 starts.  Last season, Fister posted a 14 -9 record with a 3.67 ERA in 32 starts and a relief appearance for the Detroit Tigers.

Fister beat the Mets last season in his only start against New York behind a 6.1 inning, 1 run and 8 hit performance.  This season, he is a perfect 3 – 0 in 3 starts against the Mets.
