Thursday afternoon, the New York Mets will send Jacob deGrom (6 - 5, 2.77 ERA) to the hill as they take on the Washington Nationals and Jordan Zimmerman (7 – 5, 3.00 ERA).  deGrom makes his 16th start as Zimmermann makes his 23rd.

Jacob deGrom picked up his 5th straight victory in his last outing after holding the opposition to 2 runs and 4 hits in 7.1 innings.  He struck out 7 batters while walking just 1.  After a slow start to his rookie campaign, deGrom has caught on fire.  He is 5 -1 in his last 6 starts and the loss was all the way back in early July. In his 5 game win streak, he has surrendered just 4 runs. 

This will be deGrom’s first outing against the Nationals but if he continues his mastery on the mound, a win over Washington might be in his near future. 

Jordan Zimmermann notched another victory after hurling 7 scoreless innings in his last start.  He gave up just 5 hits, without a single walk while striking out 8.  Zimmermann has issued just 1 walk in his last 4 outings but he is only 2 -1 in his last 6 starts. Last season, Zimmermann went 19 – 9 with a 3.25 ERA in 32 starts.

In 2013, Zimmermann was 1 - 3 with a 3.62 ERA in 5 starts against the Mets.  This season, Zimmermann has a victory over New York after allowing 3 runs and 8 hits in 6 innings.
