New York Mets Jonathon Niese (5-7) will attempt to snap his three-game losing streak on Wednesday night when he goes up against Doug Fister (10-3) and the Washington Nationals.

Jonathon Niese pitched eight innings against the San Francisco Giants in his last start, but he gave up five runs (three earned) and took the loss. He allowed nine hits in that outing and struck out four batters while walking zero. He has only given up nine home runs in 122.1 innings of work this season and currently owns a 3.24 ERA.

Nationals first baseman Adam LaRoche has just four hits in 15 at-bats against Niese in his career, but two of those hits were home runs. Shortstop Ian Desmond is just 3-for-18 against Niese with a walk and five strikeouts.

After going undefeated in July, Doug Fister lost his first game of August last weekend when he was beaten by the Philadelphia Phillies at home. He pitched seven innings in that game and allowed just two runs on six hits while walking two and striking out five. He now has a 2.68 ERA on the season and he has only walked 13 batters in 97.1 innings.

Mets outfielder Curtis Granderson is the only player on his team who has hit a home run off of Fister, but he is just 1-for-6 overall against him. Veteran Bobby Abreu is 3-for-16 against Fister in his career with four walks and three strikeouts.
