On Friday night, San Francisco Giants right-hander Matt Cain will be returning from the disabled list and will face Jonathon Niese and the New York Mets.

On Sunday, Jonathon Niese didn't factor into the decision against the Philadelphia Phillies, but he did pitch perhaps his best game of the season in that one. He went eight innings in that start and allowed just two earned runs on eight hits while striking out six and walking one. Other than his record (3-3), Niese is probably happy with all of his stats this season. Through 70.1 innings, he has given up just 62 hits and has struck out 51 batters.

Giants outfielder Hunter Pence has struggled in his 26 at-bats against Niese, getting just three hits and striking out seven times against him. Buster Posey and Angel Pagan are the only two players on the Giants to hit home runs off of the left-hander.

Matt Cain will be making his first start since back on May 21, when he was pulled after three scoreless innings against the Colorado Rockies with a strained hamstring. So far this season, Cain, has pitched 46.2 innings and has struck out 39 batters while walking 17. He owns a 1-3 record with a 3.66 ERA.

Mets third baseman David Wright is batting .440 against Cain in his career with six doubles and three RBI. Ruben Tejada is the only Met to hit a home run against Cain.
