24-year-old starter Zack Wheeler will go for his third consecutive win when the New York Mets face rookie Odrisamer Despaigne and the San Diego Padres on Sunday.

Zack Wheeler had a solid start against the Miami Marlins his last time on the mound and he came away with his fifth win of the season for his efforts. He allowed just one run on five hits in that outing and struck out six while walking two. Wheeler is now 5-8 with a 3.90 ERA for the Mets this season, and he has struck out 105 batters in 108.1 innings.

Padres third baseman Chase Headley has two hits in five at-bats against Wheeler with a walk and an RBI. Veteran Chris Denorfia is 2-for-3 against him in his career with a double and a strikeout.

In his last start, right-hander Odrisamer Despaigne pitched seven innings against the Los Angeles Dodgers on the road and picked up his second win of the season. He allowed just two runs in that game and struck out seven batters while walking no one. Through four starts, Despaigne is 2-1 with a 1.35 ERA and he has only given up 18 hits in 26.2 innings of work.

The Padres will be going up against Despaigne for the first time on Sunday afternoon, and they can expect to see plenty of his highly-rated 92 mph fastball in that game.
