Thursday night, Daisuke Matsuzaka takes the mound for the New York Mets as they face Vance Worley and the Pittsburgh Pirates.  Matsuzaka makes his 6th start and 23rd appearance as Worley makes his 3rd start.

Daisuke Matsuzaka lost his last outing and that brought his record down to 3 – 1 with a 2.68 ERA.  In the loss, Matsuzaka allowed just a run on 6 hits in 5.1 innings of work.  He walked a batter and struck out 4. In just 5 starts, Dice-K has matched his win total of 2013 when he posted a 3 – 3 record with an 8.28 ERA in 7 starts.

Last season, Matsuzaka didn’t face the Pirates but he has seen most of the lineup before.  But Pittsburgh is batting just .227 against the Japanese right-hander with 10 hits, 2 homers and 10 RBIs in 44 at-bats.

Vance Worley got his 1st win of the season his last time out and brings a 1 - 0 record and a 1.98 ERA into this start.  In the win, Worley gave up 3 runs and 5 hits (including a homer) in 6.2 innings of work.  He walked a batter while striking out 4.  In 2013 with the Minnesota Twins, Worley started 10 games and posted a 1- 5 record with a 7.21 ERA.

Last season, Worley was torched in his only start against the Mets. He surrendered 9 runs on 7 hits in just an inning of work.  And most of the Mets will be happy to see him because New York is batting .451 against Worley with 32 hits, 2 homers and 15 RBIs in 71 at-bats.
