Friday night, a pair of veteran right-handers meet as the New York Mets give the ball to Bartolo Colon (10 – 9, 4.12 ERA) as they take on A.J. Burnett (6 – 11, 4.16 ERA) and the Philadelphia Phillies.  It will be the 23rd start for Colon and the 25th for Burnett.

Burnett dropped his 2nd straight game the last time out after a game that he would probably like to forget.  It was a short night for the veteran right-hander after he went just 1.2 innings and surrendered 5 runs and 3 hits (including a home run).  Before Burnett could get the hook, he was ejected for showing his displeasure with the home plate umpire’s calls.  The loss dropped Burnett’s record to 1 – 4 in his last 6 starts.  Last season with the Pittsburgh Pirates, Burnett posted a record of 10 – 11 with a 3.30 ERA in 30 starts.

In 2013, Burnett pitched to a no-decision in his only start against the Mets.  This season, Burnett is 0 – 1 in 2 starts against New York.
