Monday night, Bartolo Colon and the New York Mets will face Hiroki Kuroda and the New York Yankees.  Both pitchers will be making their 8th starts of the year. 

Bartolo Colon saw his record fall to 2 – 5 and his ERA dropped to 5.36 after losing his last start.  In that outing, Colon allowed just 3 runs on 7 hits with a walk and 5 strikeouts through 7 innings.  But his offense was shutout and that led to the loss.  Last season, the seemingly ageless Colon went 18 - 6 with a 2.65 ERA in 30 starts for the Oakland A’s. 

In 2013, Colon was 1-1 with a 2.38 ERA in 2 starts against the Yankees. He allowed just 3 runs on 9 hits in 11.1 innings of work.  But the Yankees have hit Colon well in the past with Derek Jeter owning a career .385 average with 2 homers and 6 RBIs against the veteran right-hander. 

Hiroki Kuroda pitched to a no decision his last time out despite allowing just 3 runs on 5 hits in 7.2 innings of work.  Kuroda didn’t issue any walks and struck out 8 as he lowered his ERA to 4.43 to go with his 2-3 record.  In 2013, Kuroda was 11 – 13 with a 3.31 ERA in 32 starts.

Last season, Kuroda didn’t get the decision in his only start against the Mets despite pitching 7 innings of shutout ball and only surrendering 4 hits while striking out 7.   New York’s David Wright is batting .350 with 3 RBIs against Kuroda.
