On Friday night, right-hander Daisuke Matsuzaka will get his fifth start of the season for the New York Mets and will have to face Henderson Alvarez and the Miami Marlins.

Veteran Daisuke Matsuzaka last made a start back on June 10 when he was able to pick up the win against the Milwaukee Brewers. He went six innings in that game and allowed just one run on three hits while striking out five and walking three. In 41.2 combined innings both as a starter and as a reliever, Matsuzaka has a 3-0 record with a very solid 2.81 ERA.

Marlins outfielder Giancarlo Stanton is 2-for-7 against Matsuzaka in his career with a home run and two RBI. Jeff Mathis is hitless against him in seven career at-bats.

Last weekend, Henderson Alvarez went seven strong innings against the Pittsburgh Pirates, but all he could get out of that outing was a no decision. He gave up just runs on seven hits in those seven innings of work and walked two while striking out six. On the year, Alvarez is 3-3 with a 2.56 ERA and he has only allowed four home runs in 88 innings.

Mets outfielder Curtis Granderson has just three hits in 19 at-bats against Alvarez in his career with six strikeouts. Third baseman David Wright is 5-for-13 against him with a double and three RBI.
