On Tuesday night the New York Mets will have Bartolo Colon take the mound against the Atlanta Braves and Aaron Harang.   Each of the veteran pitchers will be making their second starts of the season.

The seemingly ageless Bartolo Colon opened his 17th major league season with a loss.  In 6 innings of work, Colon surrendered 3 runs (all earned) on 9 hits (including two home runs) while striking out 4.   Last season with the Oakland A’s Colon started 30 games and came away with an 18 – 6 record (including 3 complete game shutouts) and an ERA of 2.65.  They were impressive numbers for a man about to turn 41 this year. 

Despite his long career, Colon has only faced three of the Atlanta Braves.   B.J. Upton has seen Colon 23 times and has 7 hits with 5 RBIs and 6 strikeouts against the veteran right-hander.

Aaron Harang is a veteran in his own right and he started the season with a win in a 6  2/3 inning outing where he gave up just 2 hits while striking out 3.  Last season, splitting time between the Seattle Mariners and the Mets, Harang compiled a 5 – 12 record with an ERA of 5.40 in 26 starts.

Many of the Mets have stepped in the batter’s box against Harang.  Chris Young has faced Harang 24 times but David Wright will be the one to watch out for.  Wright is batting .524 against Harang with 11 hits (4 of them doubles), 7 RBIs and a home run.
