Thursday night the New York Mets will send Jenrry Mejia to the hill to face the Atlanta Braves and David Hale.  Both pitchers are making their 2nd starts of the season.

Jenrry Mejia picked up the win in his 1st start after a 6 inning outing where he gave up just 1 run on 4 hits for an ERA of 1.50.  He struck out 8 but walked 5.  Those numbers could be the start of something good for Mejia, who started just 5 games for the Mets last season.  He went 1 - 2 in those starts but he struck out 27 while walking just 4.

Mejia was hit in the right ankle by a ball hit back to the mound in his first start but it appears that there was no serious injury.  He didn’t face the Braves in 2013 and he has limited experience against the Atlanta lineup.   Only 4 Braves have faced him before and no one has seen him more than 4 times.

 David Hale had a solid 1st start of the year, pitching 5 shutout innings while giving up 5 hits, walking 2 and striking out 4 for a no decision.  It was only the third career start for the right-hander now in his second major league season.    In 2013, he started 2 games and went 1 – 0 with a 0.82 ERA and 14 strikeouts to 1 walk.

The scouting report will be Hale’s friend as he has never faced the Mets.
