Tuesday night, the Minnesota Twins will give the ball to Kyle Gibson as they face David Price and the Tampa Bay Rays. It will be Gibson’s 4th start and Price’s 5th of the season.

Kyle Gibson has been stellar in just his 2nd major league season. So far he is a perfect 3 – 0 in 3 starts with an ERA of 0.96.  In his last outing, he pitched 8 innings of shutout ball and gave up just 4 hits and a walk while striking out 4. The numbers are a dramatic improvement from last year's 2 – 4 record and 6.53 ERA in 10 starts.

Last season, Gibson lost his only start against the Rays.  Matt Joyce is the only Tampa Bay player with a hit against Gibson in 3 at-bats.  But the hit was worth 2 RBIs   

David Price comes into this one with a 2 – 1 record and an ERA of 4.39.  Price lost his last start after getting lit up for 6 runs on 10 hits (including 2 homers) in just 5 innings.  He walked 1 batter while striking out 6.  Last season, Price went 10 - 8 with a 3.33 ERA in 27 starts for the Rays.

In 2013, Price didn’t get a decision in his only start against the Twins despite giving up just 2 runs on 6 hits in 6.1 innings.  Minnesota’s Kurt Suzuki could be an issue for Price.  Against the lefthander, Suzuki is a .286 hitter with 2 doubles, a home run and 5 RBIs.  But Suzuki has also struck out 5 times.
