Phil Hughes will try to end his stretch of rough starts when he and the Minnesota Twins go up against veteran Chris Young and the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday night.

Last Thursday, Phil Hughes had his worst start of the year when he was beaten by the New York Yankees at home. He pitched 6.1 innings in that outing and gave up a season-high seven earned runs on eight hits while striking out six batters and walking one. Hughes has only walked 0.9 batters per nine innings this season, which is one of the lowest walk rates in the league.

Mariners outfielder Dustin Ackley has five hits in 10 at-bats against Hughes with a triple and two RBI. Veteran catcher John Buck is 2-for-10 against him, but he has hit a home run off of the right-hander.

35-year-old Chris Young won his eighth game of the season last week against the Houston Astros after giving up just two runs in seven innings of work. He allowed only two hits in that game and struck out a season-high eight batters while walking one. Young now has an 8-4 record this year with a 3.11 ERA and he has only given up 73 hits in 98.1 innings.
