Right-hander Phil Hughes (11-8) will look to move to 2-0 in August when he and the Minnesota Twins face Jason Hammel (1-4) and the Oakland Athletics on Sunday afternoon.

Phil Hughes picked up his first win in nearly a month on Tuesday when he defeated the San Diego Padres at home. He pitched six innings in that start and allowed only one run on seven base hits while striking out nine hitters and walking one. His ERA is now down to 4.12 on the season, but he has given up 165 hits in 143.2 innings.

Outfielder Brandon Moss is 3-for-11 with four RBI against Hughes and is the only A's player who has hit a home run off of him. Jed Lowrie is just 1-for-12 against him with three walks and three strikeouts.

Jason Hammel won his first game since being traded to the A's when he was able to defeat the Tampa Bay Rays at home. He 5.2 scoreless innings in that outing and allowed just seven hits while striking out two and walking four. He now has a 3.70 ERA on the year and he has struck out 118 hitters in 131.1 innings.

Twins veteran Josh Willingham has five hits in 16 at-bats against Hammel with a doubles, a home run and four RBI. Eduardo Escobar is hitless in five plate appearances against him with three strikeouts.
