On Tuesday night, Kyle Gibson will be going for his ninth win of the season when he and the Minnesota Twins take on James Shields and the Kansas City Royals.

Second-year starter Kyle Gibson had a rough outing last week against the Tampa Bay Rays and suffered his eighth loss of the year. He went 6.1 innings in that game and allowed six runs on nine hits while striking out one and walking one. Gibson is now 8-8 on the year with a 4.19 ERA and he has only been able to strike out 54 batters in 107.1 innings.

Royals third baseman Mike Moustakas has three hits in his six at-bats versus Gibson with two doubles and no strikeouts. Lorenzo Cain is hitless against him in his five at-bats with two strikeouts.

Last Wednesday, James Shields pitched very well against the Chicago White Sox on the road, but he had to settle for the no decision in a game the Twins eventually won 2-1. Shields went seven innings in that game and allowed one run on six hits while walking one and striking out seven. He is 9-5 on the year with a 3.58 ERA and he has struck out 120 batters in 143.1 innings.

Twins infielder Eduardo Nunez has nine hits in his 20 at-bats against Shields with a double, two home runs and three RBI. Trevor Plouffe is just 2-for-13 against him with two walks and three strikeouts.
