Sunday afternoon, the Minnesota Twins and Ricky Nolasco will take on the Detroit Tigers and Rick Porcello. Nolasco will be making his 14th start as Porcello makes his 13th. 

Ricky Nolasco pitched to a no-decision his last time out and that held his record at 4 – 5 with a 5.70 ERA.  In that start, Nolasco gave up 4 runs on 7 hits (including 2 homers) in 5.2 innings.  He walked 2 batters while striking out 6.  Nolasco seems to be on pace to match or slightly better his results from 2013 when he went 13 – 11 with a 3.70 ERA in 33 starts and a relief appearance for the Miami Marlins and the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Last season, Nolasco didn’t face the Tigers and he has only opposed 3 of the current Tigers in his career.  All 3 have hits off of Nolasco but Ian Kinsler is 2 for 3 with 2 doubles and 2 RBIs.

Rick Porcello dropped his 2nd straight game in his last start and that sent his record down to 8 - 4 with a 4.04 ERA.  In that outing, Porcello gave up 6 runs on 9 hits (including a home run) in 5 innings as he walked 1 and struck out 4.  Porcello has now lost 3 of his last 4 starts and is not looking like the pitcher that opened the season 7 - 1.  Last season, Porcello was 13 - 8 with a 4.32 ERA in 29 starts and 3 relief appearances.

In 2013, Porcello was 1-2 with a 5.40 ERA in 4 starts against the Twins.  This season, he has a win over Minnesota after giving up 4 runs on 6 hits (including a homer) in 5 innings.
