On Thursday, Trevor May (3-5) will go for his fourth win in five starts this month when he and the Minnesota Twins take on right-hander Max Scherzer (17-5) and the Detroit Tigers.

Trevor May had his first poor start of the month last Saturday when he was beaten by the Cleveland Indians at home. He gave up seven runs in 4.2 innings of work that day while striking out three batters and walking two. On the season, May has a very high 8.39 ERA and he has given up 54 hits in 39.2 innings.

Tigers catcher Bryan Holaday has two hits in his three at-bats against May with a double and an RBI. All-Star Miguel Cabrera is hitless in three at-bats versus May with no walks and no strikeouts.

Last weekend, Max Scherzer picked up his 17th win of the year when he beat the Kansas City Royals on the road. He pitched seven innings in that start and allowed just one run on seven hits while walking one and striking out six. Scherzer has 243 strikeouts in 214.1 innings of work this year and he now has a 3.19 ERA.

Twins first baseman Joe Mauer has nine hits in his 39 at-bats versus Scherzer with a home run and four RBI. Third baseman Trevor Plouffe is just 1-for-17 against him in his career with one walks and eight strikeouts.
