Tuesday night, the Minnesota Twins and Samuel Deduno will take on the Cleveland Indians and Josh Tomlin. Deduno will make his 8th appearance and 1st start of the season as Tomlin makes his 1st start as well.

Samuel Deduno gets the start as he replaces Mike Pelfrey in the starting rotation.  This season, Deduno was worked out of the bullpen and in 7 appearances he has worked 18.2 innings with an ERA of 2.89.  Last season, Deduno started 18 games for the Twins and compiled a record of 8 – 8 with an ERA of 3.63.

In 2013, Deduno was 1 – 2 with a 4.50 ERA in 3 starts against the Indians.  This season, he pitched an inning of relief against the Indians and struck out 1 while allowing 2 hits.  Cleveland’s Michael Brantley is 4 of 14 against Deduno with a double, an RBI and 3 walks.

Josh Tomlin will get the start after being called up from the Indians’ Triple-A affiliate in Columbus, where he started the season.  Tomlin’s trip to the majors is based on his work in his last two minor league starts where he pitched 17 scoreless innings, allowing just 9 hits without issuing a walk and striking out 16.  This season, he is 2 – 1 with an ERA of 2.06.   Last season, Tomlin made 1 appearance with the Indians and allowed 2 hits in 2 innings of work.

In 2013, Tomlin didn’t get to face the Twins, but he has some experience against some of their hitters. Minnesota’s Trevor Plouffe is 2 of 3 against Tomlin with a homer and 3 RBIs.
