Thursday afternoon, Kevin Correia and the Minnesota Twins will face Justin Masterson and the Cleveland Indians.   Correia will be making his 7th start of the season as Masterson makes his 8th.

Kevin Correia got his first win of the season in his last start to take him to a 1 - 3 record with an ERA of 6.09.  To get the win, Correia went 7 innings and allowed just a run on 5 hits without issuing a walk and striking out 3. It was his best performance to date this season and will go a long way towards helping him get better results than last season when he went 9 - 13 with an ERA of 4.18 in 31 starts.

In 2013, Correia was 1-1 with a 4.91 ERA in 2 starts against the Indians.  Correia will have to watch out for Cleveland’s Jason Kipnis.  Kipnis is 4 of 6 with 2 homers and 4 RBIs against Correia. 

Justin Masterson also picked up his first victory of the year in his last outing.  In that start, Masterson pitched 7.1 innings of shutout ball and surrendered just 4 hits and a walk while striking out 6.  The win gave him a 1 – 1 record and lowered his ERA to 4.01.  Last season, Masterson was 14 – 10 with a 3.45 ERA in 29 starts and 3 relief appearances.

In 2013, Masterson was 1 – 0 with an ERA of 3.31 in 2 starts and 2 relief appearances against the Twins.  This season, he lost to Minnesota after getting torched for 6 runs on 7 hits in just 3.2 innings of work. If Joe Mauer is out of the lineup, it will be a good thing for Masterson.  Mauer is a .263 hitter with 3 RBIS off of the right-hander.
