Wednesday night, Ricky Nolasco gets the call for the Minnesota Twins as they face Danny Salazar and the Cleveland Indians.  It will be the 7th starts of the season for both pitchers.

Ricky Nolasco still took the loss in his last outing despite going the distance and only allowing 3 runs on 9 hits (including a homer) while issuing a walk and striking out 6.  But if your offense fails to score, you get a loss.  As Nolasco improved is ERA to 5.82, he saw his record fall to 2 – 3.  Last season, Nolasco went 13 – 11 with an ERA of 3.70 in 33 starts with the Marlins and Dodgers.

In 2013, Nolasco didn’t face the Indians, but he pitched to a no decision against them earlier this season after allowing 5 runs on 7 hits in 4 innings.   Nolasco could consider pitching around Cleveland’s Mike Aviles as Aviles is 3 of 6 with a homer and 3 RBIs when facing the right-hander.

Danny Salazar finally got his first win of the season his last time out.  In that start, Salazar pitched 5 innings and was credited with 5 runs on 7 hits (including a home run) while walking 3 and striking out 6.  Despite the win, Salazar had to throw 101 pitches in just 5 innings and that isn’t good at all.  Last season, Salazar averaged 82.1 pitches in his 10 starts en route to a 2-3 record and 3.12 ERA. 

In 2013, Salazar lost his only start against the Twins after allowing 3 runs on 3 hits in 4 innings. This season, he pitched to a no decision against the Twins in his first start of the season.  He allowed 2 runs on 7 hits through 5.2 innings of work.
