Mike Pelfrey begins his second season with the Twins coming off the worst season in his 8-year MLB career as he takes on Danny Salazar and the Indians. Pelfrey was seemingly still showing effects of a 2012 Tommy John surgery as he went just 5-13 last season with Minnesota. The ERA of 5.19 was Pelfrey's highest in 5 years even though he did show durability by starting 29 games.

Minnesota hopes things are different for Pelfrey in 2014 as he's thrown 17.2 innings this Spring while allowing 7 runs (3.57 ERA). Pelfrey did have success against Cleveland a year ago by winning one of his three starts but allowed just 2 runs and 1 run in the no-decisions. Friday's game will eclipse the 100th AB Pelfrey will see against current members of the Indians and he's holding them to a .194 AVG so far (19 for 98).

24-year-old Danny Salazar takes the bump for Terry Francona's Indians entering his first season as a full-time starter. Salazar made 10 starts last season after being called up in July and even started the AL Wild Game, suffering a 0-4 loss to the Rays. All told Salazar was 2-3 on the year with a respectable ERA of 3.12.

The Indians are expecting big things from Salazar as their 4th starter in 2014. He pitched only 10.1 innings this Spring allowing 6 ER and walking 6. Salazar started one game last season against Minnesota and lasted only 4 innings while giving up 3 runs in a 0-3 Twins win. In that game Salazar allowed home runs to Bryan Dozier and Trevor Plouffe that accounted for all three runs.
