Friday night, the Milwaukee Brewers will give the ball to Kyle Lohse as they square off against the Pittsburgh Pirates and Brandon Cumpton. Lohse will be making his 13th start as Cumpton makes his 5th.

Kyle Lohse pitched a complete game shutout in his last outing and that boosted his record to 7 – 1 as his ERA dropped to 2.60.  Lohse didn’t issue any walks and allowed just 3 hits as he struck out 6 in the winning effort.  It was Lohse’s first shutout of the season.  Last season, he had 2 complete games and 1 shutout as he compiled a record of 11 - 10 with a 3.35 ERA in 32 starts.

In 2013, Lohse pitched to 3 no-decisions in his 3 starts against the Pirates.  This season, he picked up wins in back-to-back starts against Pittsburgh.  In those 2 starts, Lohse allowed 4 runs on 4 hits in 14.3 innings of work.

Brandon Cumpton saw his record fall to 0 – 2 and his ERA rise to 6.85after taking a beating in his last start.  In that outing, Cumpton was lit up for 11 runs on 11 hits (including a home run) in just 3.2 innings of work.  The season has already been tough for Cumpton but he should be able to post numbers better than 2013’s when he was 2 – 1 with a 2.05 ERA in 5 starts and a relief appearance.

Last season, Cumpton didn’t face the Brewers and he has never faced anyone on their lineup before.  With a good scouting report, Cumpton might be able to get his first win of the season.
