Saturday afternoon, the Milwaukee Brewers and Matt Garza will face the Chicago Cubs and Edwin Jackson.  Both pitchers will be making their 9th starts of the season.

Matt Garza pitched to a no decision in his last start after going 5 innings and giving up 3 runs on 6 hits with 4 walks and 4 strikeouts.  Garza threw an incredible 106 pitches in the outing which left his record at 2 – 3 and his ERA at 4.98.  Last season, with the Cubs and Rangers, Garza was 10 - 6 with a 3.82 ERA in 24 starts.

In 2013, Garza was with the Cubs for part of the season so he obviously didn’t face them.  But he picked up his first win of this season against the Cubs in late April.  In that start, Garza went 7 innings and allowed 2 runs on 4 hits.

Edwin Jackson comes into this start with a 2 – 3 record and an ERA of 4.56 after losing on his last trip to the mound.  In that outing, Jackson allowed 3 runs on 6 hits (including a homer) in 6 innings of work as he walked 2 and struck out 3.   Last season, Jackson was a less than stellar 8 – 18 with a 4.98 ERA in 31 starts. 

In 2013, Jackson was 1 – 4 with a 4.71 ERA in 5 starts against the Brewers.  Jackson will have to keep an eye on Milwaukee’s Martin Maldonado.  Maldonado is 4 of 9 with a double and 5 RBIs against the right-hander.
