The Milwaukee Brewers will start Wily Peralta Saturday night against the Boston Red Sox and Clay Buchholz.  Both pitchers will be taking the mound for the first time this season. Peralta comes into 2014 after starting 32 games for the Brewers last season, earning a record of 11 – 15 with an ERA of 4.37.   Since Peralta is a ground-ball pitcher, his strikeout to walk ratio is not as high as it could be. Last season he had 129 strikeouts to 73 walks and that will have to get better this year. Since Peralta has never faced the Red Sox, it will be interesting to see how he handles the lineup and how the Red Sox hitters will handle him.

The veteran Clay Buchholz enters his eighth season in the majors after posting great results in 2013.  Buchholz only started 16 games but he had a 12 – 1 record with a 1.74 ERA. In 108 1/3 innings, Buchholz struck out 96 while walking just 36.  When Buchholz is healthy he is one of the best pitchers in baseball. But his health is always a concern.

Only three Brewers have ever faced Buchholz with Lyle Overbay having the most experience.  In 28 at-bats, Overbay has a .250 average with 7 hits and an RBI.  But he has walked 4 times and struck out 5 times.
