Thursday afternoon, the Milwaukee Brewers will take the field behind Yovani Gallardo as they face the Arizona Diamondbacks and Chase Anderson.  It will be Gallardo’s 15th start and Anderson’s 7th.

Yovani Gallardo didn’t get the decision his last time out and that held his record at 4- 4 with a 3.51 ERA. Gallardo had a decent outing as he went 7 innings and gave up a run and 6 hits as he walked 2 and struck out 8.  If Gallardo can get a few more wins under his belt, he could make a run at 2013’s results.  In 2013, he went 12 – 10 with a 4.18 ERA in 31 starts.

Last season, Gallardo pitched to 2 no-decisions in his 2 starts against the Diamondbacks.  Gallardo will have to watch out for Paul Goldschmidt though. Goldschmidt is 4 for 4 with 2 RBIs against Gallardo.

Chase Anderson took his 1st loss of the season in his last start and that lowered his record to 5 – 1 with a 3.21 ERA. In that outing, Anderson allowed 2 runs and 4 hits (including a home run) in 5 innings as he walked 4 and struck out 4.  Prior to the loss, Anderson had won his first 5 starts in mostly impressive fashion.

Despite the fact that Anderson is a rookie, he has pitched well this season.  If he can shake off the loss and focus on what he has done in his first 5 starts, he should have a fighting chance against the Brewers.
