Thursday afternoon, the Miami Marlins and Jacob Turner will take on the Tampa Bay Rays and Jake Odorizzi.  It will be Turner’s 8th start and Odorizzi’s 12th. 

Jacob Turner saw his record fall to 1 – 3 with a 5.59 ERA after taking the loss his last time out.  In that start, Turner gave up 5 runs on 7 hits in 5 innings of work with 4 walks and 4 strikeouts.  Turner’s results this season are on par with last season’s when he went 3 – 8 with a 3.74 ERA in 20 starts.

In 2013, Turner didn’t face the Rays and has only seen 2 of their hitters in his career.  Ryan Hanigan is 0 for 2 against Turner and Logan Forsythe is just 1 for 4. 

Jake Odorizzi took another loss in his last outing and that gives him a 2 - 5 record with a 5.13 ERA coming into this start.  The last time out, Odorizzi gave up 5 runs on 6 hits (including a homer) in just 3.1 innings of work.  He walked 1 while striking out 6.  Last season, Odorizzi only made 4 starts and 3 relief appearances en route to a 0 – 1 record with a save and a 3.94 ERA. 

In 2013, Odorizzi was lit up in his only start against the Marlins.  He got a no-decision despite allowing 6 runs on 8 hits in just 4 innings.  There are only 4 Marlins on this year’s roster that have faced Odorizzi and they are batting .500 with 4 hits and a double in 8 at-bats against the right-hander.
