The Miami Marlins will head to the west coast to face off with the San Diego Padres on Thursday. The Marlins will send Jacob Turner to the hill to face Ian Kennedy.

Jacob Turner’s return from injury wasn’t what he was hoping for when he faced the Los Angeles Dodgers May 3. Turner threw 69 pitches in four innings of nine hit, six run ball. He struck out three while giving up a walk and one home run. Turner is going into this game with a 0-0 record and a 9.90 ERA. He’ll be looking to get back on track against a team in which he’s had some good luck against.

Current San Diego Padres are hitting .227 against Turner. Nick Hundley is 2-for-3 against Turner with a double and a RBI.

Ian Kennedy is coming off a rough outing against the Arizona Diamondbacks on May 3. Kennedy was shelled for 11 hits but only gave up three earned runs in five innings. He also struck out seven batters and walked one. The loss dropped Kennedy to a 2-4 record and a 3.43 ERA. His record isn’t indicative of how well he’s pitched this year as he’s struck out 44 batters (eighth in the NL). He’s only given up three home runs in 42 innings.

Kennedy has pitched well against players on the current Marlins Roster. Batters are hitting .211 against Kennedy and have been struck out 13 times in 57 at bats. Giancarlo Stanton has played well against Kennedy hitting .364 with two home runs and three RBIs.
