On Thursday night, Jarred Cosart (0-1) will make his second start for the Miami Marlins when they go up against Edinson Volquez (8-7) and the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Jarred Cosart made his first start for the Marlins last week and ended up taking the loss after the Cincinnati Reds were able to score four runs off of him. He pitched 5.1 innings in that outing and allowed four hits while walking two batters and striking out three. Overall this season, he is 9-8 with a 4.51 ERA, but he has only given up seven home runs in 121.2 innings.

All of the Pirates will be facing Cosart for the first time on Thursday night. Right-handed hitters currently have a .679 OPS against him, while left-handed hitters have a .717 OPS against him.

Veteran starter Edinson Volquez had a decent start against the Arizona Diamondbacks last week and ended up with a no decision for his efforts. He allowed four runs (three earned) in 5.2 innings of work that day and walked two batters while striking out five. He now has a 3.91 ERA on the season and he has struck out 83 batters in 126.2 innings.

Marlins first baseman Garrett Jones has just three hits in 13 at-bats against Volquez in his career, but all three of those hits were home runs. Third baseman Casey McGehee is hitless against him in eight at-bats with a walk and two strikeouts.
