On Wednesday night, Tom Koehler (7-8) will try to even up his record when the Miami Marlins go up against lefty Jeff Locke (2-3) and the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Last Thursday, Tom Koehler pitched seven strong innings against the Cincinnati Reds, but he ended up taking the loss after getting just one run from his offense. He only allowed two unearned runs in that outing and struck out three batters while walking no one. Koehler has only given up 113 hits in 131.1 innings this season and he currently has a 3.70 ERA.

Pirates All-Star Andrew McCutchen is 2-for-4 against Koehler in his career and is the only player on his team with a home run against the right-hander. Third baseman Pedro Alvarez is 0-for-5 against him with three strikeouts.

Jeff Locke made it through 5.1 innings against the Arizona Diamondbacks last week and ended up suffering his second consecutive loss. He allowed six runs (four earned) on nine base hits in that start and struck out five batters while walking two. Through 11 starts this year, Locke now has a 3.77 ERA and he has only walked 1.6 batters per nine innings.

Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton has six hits in nine at-bats versus Locke in his career with a double and two solo home runs. Veteran Jeff Mathis is 2-for-6 against Locke with three walks and an RBI.
