Saturday night the Miami Marlins will give the ball to Nate Eovaldi as the Philadelphia Phillies start Jonathan Pettibone.  Eovaldi will be making his third start of the year as Pettibone makes his first.

Nate Eovaldi has looked good in his first 2 starts.  Although he took the loss, his last outing was a 7 inning day where he gave up 3 runs on 6 hits while striking out 8.   In his two starts, Eovaldi already has 14 strikeouts to just 1 walk.   It’s a decent start after going 4 – 6 in 18 starts for the Marlins last year.

In 2013, Eovaldi faced the Phillies twice and came away with a 1 – 0 record and an ERA of 1.42.  He will try to stay away from Philadelphia’s Carlos Ruiz on Saturday.  Ruiz owns a .364 average with 3 doubles and 2 RBIs against Eovaldi.

Jonathan Pettibone will get his first action of the season against the Marlins.  Pettibone started the season with the Phillies’ Triple A affiliate, the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs, but will get called up for the start.  Last year, in his rookie season, Pettibone started 18 games for the Phillies and earned a 5 – 4 record with an ERA of 4.04. 

Pettibone got a win in his 2 starts against the Marlins last season.  In 12.1 innings of work, Pettibone surrendered 3 runs on 12 hits with 4 strikeouts and 2 walks for an ERA of 1.46.   The Marlins lineup has hit Pettibone well with Donovan Solano having the best results.  Solano has 2 hits in 3 at-bats with a homer and an RBI.
