Friday night, the Miami Marlins will give the ball to Henderson Alvarez (10 – 6, 2.88 ERA) as they square off against the Philadelphia Phillies and Cole Hamels (8 -7, 2.56 ERA).  Both pitchers will be making their 27th starts of the season.

Cole Hamels took the loss in his last outing after surrendering 3 runs on 7 hits (including 2 homers) through 6.1 innings. He walked 3 batters while striking out 7.  After a horrible start to the year, Hamels has rebounded.  He is 5 -2 in his last 10 trips to the mound.  In 2013, Hamels finished the year with an 8 - 14 record and a 3.60 ERA in 33 starts.

Last season, Hamels was 1 - 2 with a 2.18 ERA in 5 starts against Miami.  This season, he is 0 – 1 against the Marlins in 3 starts.
