Friday evening, the Miami Marlins and Henderson Alvarez will face the New York Mets and Zach Wheeler. Both pitchers will be making their 5th starts of the season. 

Henderson Alvarez comes into this one after winning his last start and taking his record to 1 – 2 with an ERA of 2.66.  In that start, Alvarez pitched a complete game shutout and gave up just 2 hits without issuing a walk while striking out 4.  Last season, Alvarez was 5 – 6 in 17 starts with an ERA of 3.59. 

In 2013, Alvarez won both of his starts against the Mets with an ERA of 1.26.  New York’s David Wright has done well in his few at-bats against Alvarez.  Wright is 2 of 6 with a double and 2 RBIs when facing the young right-hander.

Zach Wheeler missed getting the decision in his last start after going 6 innings and giving up 3 runs on 6 hits with 6 strikeouts and 3 walks.  That left his record at 1 – 2 with an ERA of 4.63.  In his rookie season in 2013, Wheeler went 7 - 5 with an ERA of 3.42 in 17 starts.

Wheeler didn’t get a decision in his only start against the Marlins last season.  In that start, he went 7 innings and allowed 2 runs on 3 hits.  No Marlins hitter has more than 1 hit against Wheeler and he should have no problem with the lineup this time.
