Tuesday night, the Miami Marlins will give the ball to Nathan Eovaldi (6 – 11, 4.29 ERA) as they face the New York Mets and Bartolo Colon (13 - 12, 4.14 ERA).   Eovaldi makes his 31st start as Colon makes his 29th.

Nathan Eovaldi took yet another defeat in his last trip to the mound.  In just 4 innings of work, Eovaldi surrendered 4 runs on 8 hits (including 2 homers) as he walked 2 and struck out 1.  Eovaldi hasn’t seen a victory since early August and is a dismal 1 – 6 in his last 10 starts.  Last season, Eovaldi made 18 starts en route to a 4 -6 record and a 3.39 ERA.

In 2013, Eovaldi pitched to a no-decision in his only start against the Mets.  He repeated that feat earlier this season after pitching to another no-decision in his only outing against New York.

Bartolo Colon took the loss in his last start although he had a short outing.   Colon allowed 6 runs and 7 hits (including 2 home runs) in just 3 innings.  His line wasn’t the reason for his short outing.   He was ejected after hitting his 2nd batter of the night.  Colon has been hit or miss in recent weeks as he has alternated wins and losses on the way to a 5 – 4 record in his last 10 outings.  Last season, Colon went 18 – 6 with a 2.65 ERA in 30 starts for the Oakland A’s.

Colon didn’t face Miami last season but he has a start against them earlier this season.  In that outing, Colon took the loss despite surrendering just 3 runs and 7 hits through 7 innings.
