On Wednesday night, it looks like Anthony Desclafani will be making his MLB debut for the Miami Marlins when they go up against Paul Maholm and the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Anthony Desclafani would be getting the start due to Miami's ace Jose Fernandez going down with an elbow injury. Desclafani 4.29 ERA doesn't make him look all that good, but he has struck out 38 batters through 42 innings in the minors while walking just 10. He has given up four home runs and has thrown two wild pitches this season.

Desclafani throws a 92-94 mph fastball and it has been clocked as high as 97 mph this season. He is a strikeout pitcher, but he has also figured out how to induce more ground balls throughout his time in the minors.

Paul Maholm lost for the third time this season when he was beaten by the San Francisco Giants last week at home. He pitched 5.2 innings in that game and gave up three earned runs on three hits while striking out just two batters and walking four. He has given up nearly 10 hits per nine innings this season and he currently has a 4.71 ERA.

Jeff Baker has hit Maholm well over the years, going 9-for-23 against him with four doubles, a home run and five RBI. Reed Johnson has eight hits in 18 at-bats against Maholm with three doubles.
