Henderson Alvarez (10-5) will attempt to win his fifth consecutive start when he and the Miami Marlins face off against Hector Santiago (3-7) and the Los Angeles Angels on Wednesday night.

Henderson Alvarez gave up four runs in six innings against the Colorado Rockies last week and got some help from his offense to get him the win. He allowed 10 hits in that outing while striking out five batters and walking no one. Alvarez now has a fantastic 2.57 ERA on the year and he has only given up 10 home runs in 150.2 innings on the mound.

Angels second baseman Gordon Beckham has three hits in 10 plate appearances against Alvarez with a double and zero strikeouts. First baseman Albert Pujols is hitless against him in seven at-bats with one strikeout.

Lefty Hector Santiago had a pretty good start against the Oakland Athletics last week and ended up with a no decision. He pitched five innings in that start and gave up two runs (one earned) on seven hits while walking two batters and striking out five. Santiago has no wins this month despite having a 2.01 ERA in four starts.

Marlins catcher Jeff Baker has no hits in four at-bats against Santiago in his career with one walk and three strikeouts. Jeff Mathis is 1-for-2 against him in his career with a double.
