Saturday afternoon, Randy Wolf gets the call for the Miami Marlins as they face Jeff Samardzija and the Chicago Cubs. Wolf will be making his 3rd start and 5th appearance as Samardzija makes his 13th start.

Randy Wolf got his first win of the season the last time out and that evened his record to 1- 1 with a 3.38 ERA.  In that outing, Wolf allowed just a run on 3 hits in 6 innings with a walk and 7 strikeouts.  Randy Wolf missed all of the 2013 season after undergoing his 2nd Tommy John surgery.   

Wolf has experience against the Cubs’ lineup and his results have been pretty good over the years.  But Chicago’s Starlin Castro is batting .333 with a homer and 2 RBIs against the veteran lefty. 

Jeff Samardzija took another loss the last time out and that dropped his record to 1- 5 with a 2.54 ERA.  In that outing, Samardzija was torched for 8 runs and 8 hits (including a homer) in just 3 innings. He walked 2 while striking out 3. Prior to the start, Samardzija had never pitched as short an outing as that one.  In 2013, he went 8 - 13 with a 4.34 ERA in 33 starts.

Last season, Samardzija pitched to a no-decision in his only start against the Marlins after giving up 6 runs on 9 hits (including 2 homers) in 6 innings of work.  The 8 Marlins that have faced Samardzija are only batting .200 against him with 11 hits, 2 homers and 9 RBIs in 55 at-bats.
