Henderson Alvarez, who is coming off of his league-leading third shutout of the season, will be on the mound for the Miami Marlins when they face Jake Arrieta and the Chicago Cubs on Sunday afternoon.

In his last start, Henderson Alvarez was able to hold the Tampa Bay Rays to eight hits over nine scoreless innings to pick up his third win of the season. He didn't walk anyone in that outing and he ended up striking out five batters. Alvarez is just 3-3 on the season, but he has been fantastic for the Marlins, allowing just 16 walks in 75.2 innings and he owns a solid 2.62 ERA.

No one on the Cubs has gone up against Alvarez more than three times. In Starlin Castro's three plate appearances, he is 1-for-2 with a walk.

Jake Arrieta gave up just one run to the New York Mets in his last start, but he could only make it through 4.2 innings due to his high pitch count. He gave up seven hits in that start and walked three batters while striking out two. So far this season, Arrieta has a 1-1 record in six starts and has struck out 28 batters in 30 innings of work.

Marlins first baseman Garrett Jones is just 2-for-10 against Arrieta in his career, but he is the only player on his team who has hit a home run off of him.
