Tuesday night, Clayton Kershaw takes the hill for the Los Angeles Dodgers as they face Ross Detwiler and the Washington Nationals.  Kershaw will make his 2nd start of the season as Detwiler makes his 1st start.

 Clayton Kershaw makes his first start in nearly 6 weeks after straining a back muscle during his opening Day start.  In that start, he went 6.2 innings and allowed run on 5 hits with a walk and 7 strikeouts.  Since then, he has made 2 rehab starts in the minors and has shown that he was ready to return to the big leagues.   Last season, Kershaw was 16 – 9 with an ERA of 1.83 in 33 starts.

In 2013, Kershaw won both starts against the Nationals with an ERA of 1.15.  In 15.2 innings of work, Kershaw allowed 2 runs on 7 hits with a walk and 20 strikeouts.  Washington’s Ryan Zimmerman is batting a lusty .438 against Kershaw with a double and an RBI.       

Ross Detwiler gets the call out of the bullpen for this one after making 9 appearances in relief this season.  In those appearances, he has amassed an 0 - 1 record and an ERA of 1.84. Last season, Detwiler went 2 – 7 with an ERA of 4.04 in 13 starts.

In 2013, Detwiler was lit up in his only start against the Dodgers.  He lasted just 3 innings after giving up 2 runs on 6 hits with 2 walks.   LA’s Andre Ethier is batting .400 against Detwiler with a homer and 3 RBIs.
